Bosnia video

Here's a short (presumed) cell phone video of Bosnia playing a show with Tragedy from 2 years ago.

Here's the back story: While we were playing this crackhead lady somehow got into the show and started yelling at us that we "killed Christ". She went on and on and eventually wandered off. About a song later she walks back up in front of the drums with some clothes gone, as seen here. Then she strikes a JC pose and holds it for about two songs. We thought it'd be fitting that we covered an Eyehategod song - this video being the end of 'Dixie Whiskey'. After that song the crowd started chanting "TAKE - A - SHIT! TAKE - A - SHIT!" She was eventually removed from the venue (without shitting).

The audio and video isn't synced up, but it's still pretty funny. Josh sang it.

I've realized I miss keeping an online journal. I think I may start updating this thing again. I was gonna set up a blogspot thing, but meh, I suppose I can just make this public and non public at will. I got away from writing anything personal online for years because of the identity thief. I'll assume whoever they were grew up enough to realize wooing girls on instant messenger is now only done by men in their 40's.

I'll probably post pictures more than anything. And lyrics from songs I'm into at the moment. I often have urges to share good lyrics.

I hope everyone who used to read this still does. I need the acknowledgement.

I really enjoy poster art. I like doing it, and I like looking at it. I think the punk rock scene had a big influence on it, because before punk rock, show posters were boring. Punk rock made them edgy.

Anyway, my band has some exciting shows coming up next month and I made posters for all of them. Most of them are hand drawn by me, with the only exceptions being some type faces and band logos, and then assembled in photoshop (everything in the BB poster is hand drawn besides the really small type). It's really the only graphic design I do, but I really like doing it.

On the way to drop off my work reports tonight, I put on the Flesh Made to Suffer demo CD. I hadn't listened to this in at least a few years.

For the Denver-ites and other friends who weren't Halifax connected, I sang for a band called Flesh Made to Suffer from the fall of 2001, up until I moved out of Halifax in the fall of 2002. This was during the screamo era, entering the metalcore era, and it's safe to say it was a bit of a combination of the two...but more metally. Think Buried Inside meets Zao. Anyway...

There's a part of me that loves going back and listening to old recordings of my former bands after I've long forgotten where all the mistakes and parts I don't like are. We were a good band, and that was a solid demo. Probably would have been one of those to "make it" if we lasted into 2004 and 2005 when metalcore became the new nu-metal.

Anyway, it reminded me that a few weeks ago, I found the envelope comtaining all of my old lyrics to the Flesh songs. There were a few that either never made it to songs, or were put to songs that were only played live one or two times and then dropped. In hindsight, I thought they were half decent. A little cliche at times, but decent.

This song was titled "Spending Weekends in the Mortuary". From what I remember it was about body image and "society's" pressure, especially on females, to look maintain a certain body type. I often wrote lyrics from perspectives other than my own, so I'm not sure if this is written from me or from someone else:

This next one was the words to the first Flesh song we ever wrote. The song was quickly disgarded, but I still like the lyrics. It was about petty competition between friends in the "scene", and how we were all guilty of contributing to it, either by fueling it or listening to it. The last line is a Born Against song title. It was called "The Politics of being Swallowed by a Snake":

I think I wrote alot of those back then. It didn't have a name.

Maybe sometime I'll track down some mp3s to post here for anyone interested (my delusion suggests people still read this ever-neglected journal).

Anyway, I googled our name, and some pictures from our very first show came up. This was the only show we played with Nick Oxner.

Again, for the non-knowers, Nick Oxner and I brainstormed and started the band. He played guitar. He was one of my best and closest friends for the few years prior. A month after our first show, he hung himself in his apartment, allegedly claiming I was the only one who knew "the real him" in his suicide note (I was never given the opportunity to read the note - nor was anyone apparently). I can't not think of Flesh Made to Suffer without immediately associating it with him, though we stayed a band and played for 10 months following his death.

That's nick on guitar behind me.
